Preparing you for life
Parents, Alumni, Students and other members of The Meadowbrook High family, these are extraordinary times. March 12, 2020 marked the start of significant changes in our everyday lives as Jamaicans as a result of the emergence of COVID-19 on our shores. The shockwaves in our homes, community and nation are still being felt, however, regardless of the numerous uncertainties we currently face, what is clear is that we must adapt and thrive.
We, at Meadowbrook High have decided that our core business: teaching – learning must go on, for the sake of our children and in keeping with instructions from our Most Honourable Prime Minister. As such, we have organised a Temporary Virtual Learning and Student Engagement System as of 23/3/2020. While several teachers have been providing instruction and support to their students prior to this, there was a definite need to streamline and organise this process for the good of all our students.
The Temporary MHS Virtual Learning and Student Engagement System consists of:
- The use of the Showbie and Google Classroom Platforms to deliver information to be learnt as well as provide assessment. Either of these platforms are used for all grades and students are expected to download or use on a web browser the requisite platform to access their lessons. Each class to be added on a platform requires an access code and these can be found on the Meadowbrook App and Website.
- The use of Zoom App for live and recorded classes for students in Grades 11 to 13 preparing for CSEC and CAPE Exams at the times they would be timetabled for class.
- The archiving or storage of documents given to students using a Google Drive account. Parents would be able to access information as needed.
- The use of official email addresses for Year group Coordinators and Subject Departments for communication between home and school. This is supplemented by the use of formal and informal WhatsApp groups including those managed by the PTA, the school’s website and the Meadowbrook App serving as a Notice Board / Help Desk
We know that there will be challenges, hiccups as we try to navigate this new situation. We will, together, learn along the way. All stakeholders of this noble institution have the same goal, the wholistic success of our students and we are all working to help them to shine bright like the stars we know they are. Let us know the challenges so that we can fix them together, as we need each other to “Let our light so shine”
